Tamas Kocsis began studying violin at age four, and at agenine entered The Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and gave hisfirst recital on Hungarian Radio the same year. He graduated fromthe Liszt Academy with a Master and Artist's Diploma at ageeighteen as a student of Denes Kovacs. Mr. Kocsis then came tothe United States to study under Josef Gingold at IndianaUniversity and received an Artist Diploma in 1993. Mr. Kocsisalso studied with Nelli Shkolnikova at Indiana University andDorothy DeLay at The Juilliard School.
As a soloist he has performed with many orchestras throughoutEurope and was regularly featured with the Hungarian StateConcert Orchestra, the Hungarian Radio Symphony, the BudapestSymphony and the Cluj Philharmonic of Romania. Mr. Kocsis madehis New York solo debut at Carnegie Recital Hall in 1995. He haswon numerous international awards including a Diploma at the 1994Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. He was also a winner at theArtist International Auditions in New York City and the LeopoldShopmaker Award. He received the European Council's JuventusAward in 1994.
Mr. Kocsis served as concertmaster of the Fort Worth Symphonyand Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra from 1995 through 1998. Duringthis time he was also on the Faculty of Texas ChristianUniversity as Artist-in-Residence. Since 1998 he is Concertmasterof the Savannah Symphony Orchestra. He spends his summers inColorado as Concertmaster of the BMI at the Breckenridge MusicFestival.
Mr. Kocsis performs on a rare violin made in Cremona byAntonio Stradivari, the "Ex- Elphistone", dated 1684/5.
Fabio Bidini
Fabio Bidini made his North American debut performingBeethoven's Fantasy for piano, chorus and orchestra, Op. 80 withYoel Levi and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra at the ASO BeethovenSummer Festival in 1993. He undertook two North American tours:the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in the United States and aseries of recital and orchestra appearances in key citiesextending from Mexico City to Juneau, Alaska. Mr. Bidini's NewYork metropolitan area debut recitals included performances atLincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, the Frick Collection, theTilles Center for the Performing Arts on Long Island, and a guestappearance with the BBC at the United Nations honoring the 49thanniversary of that institution.
On March 3, 1992, in a concert celebrating the 10thanniversary of the Barbican and the London Symphony Orchestra'sresidency there, Mr. Bidini appeared with the LSO under thedirection of Michael Tilson Thomas in a performance of the LisztConcerto No. 1 in E-Flat, joining other guest artists JamesGalway, Barbara Hendricks and Sir George Solti. This marked Mr.Bidini's first official performance as a Steinway artist, and theinauguration of the Barbican's Steinway Grand Piano. Mr. Bidini'sorchestral appearances have included debuts with the New WorldSymphony, the Dallas Symphony, the St. Louis Symphony, ThePhiliharmonia Orchestra of London, and the Budapest SymphonyOrchestra along with others. In May of 1997 he made his debut inCarnegie Hall.
Born in Arezzo, Italy in 1968, Fabio Bidini began his pianostudies at the age of five. Following ten years of private study,he enrolled in the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome where hegraduated Magna Cum Laude. He also studied composition at theFlorence Conservatory. Mr. Bidini has been awarded the firstprize in eleven of Italy's most prestigious national pianocompetitions and has received top prizes in eight internationalcompetitions.
Mr. Bidini's most important teachers were Orazio Frugoni andMaria Tipo. His performances have been broadcast on radio andtelevision internationally. He has recorded solo and chamberworks for Encore Performance Recordings; his first release wastitled Fabio Bidini in Recital.
