Schola Cantorum of Texas: Dr. Gary Ebensberger,Director

 

Dr. Gary Ebensberger

Now in his 20th year as Musical Director and Conductor of the Schola Cantorum of Texas, Dr. Ebensberger is one of the nation's foremost choral musicians. Dr. Ebensberger, Chairman of the Music Department and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Texas at Arlington, received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of Texas at Austin. At the Austin campus, he was director of the University Men's Glee Club and assistant to Dr. Morris J. Beachy, Director of Choral Organizations. His dissertation topic was “The Motets of Francis Poulenc.” Dr. Ebensberger's Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts degrees are from Sam Houston State University.

Dr. Ebensberger has served as a clinician for the Texas Choral Directors Association and has conducted All-Region choirs throughout the state as well as the California All-State Choir, the Georgia All-State College Choir, and numerous choral festivals throughout the United States. In the summer of 1988, Dr. Ebensberger adjudicated the Dublin International Choral Festival in Ireland, and in 1989 he made his Carnegie Hall debut conducting the University of Texas at Arlington choir and four other choruses from across the nation in a performance of Poulenc's “Gloria” with the Manhattan Philharmonic.
