Larry Palmer

LARRY PALMER is Professor of Harpsichord and Organ and Director of Graduate Studies in Music in the Meadows School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, where he has taught since 1970.

A graduate of Oberlin College and the Eastman School of Music, Dr. Palmer studied harpsichord with Isolde Ahlgrimm at the Salzburg Mozarteum, where he made his harpsichord debut in 1958. Summer studies with Gustav Leonhardt in Holland and the lessons learned from a constantly-expanding collection of superior instruments have led him to a wide-ranging career as recitalist, teacher, and writer.

Larry Palmer has edited the harpsichord features for THE DIAPASON (Chicago) since 1969 and has published two books: Hugo Distler and his Church Music (1967) and Harpsichord in America: a 20th-Century Revival (1989). He is represented, both as author and subject, in The New Grove Dictionary of American Music. He has recorded four compact discs for Encore Performance Recordings; two previous recordings were issued by The Musical Heritage Society .
